Story Time: Hebrew children's books that read like a book

Story Time is a digital library of Hebrew children's books, with illustrations, vowel-pointed text and two-page spreads like a real book. It is built as a web app (PWA), so you can install it on a phone without an app store. You can read it now at storytime-books.netlify.app.

The idea

Story Time is my own product, not client work, and a personal one. I wrote the books myself, from the childhood stories my father told me, and then built them a home on the phone and the tablet without losing the feel of a book: a two-page spread, a big illustration and a poem you read aloud. The first book in the library is "Mr. Cucumber the Green and Healthy".

Pages that feel like a book

Every page of the book is shown as a two-page spread, the text on one side and the illustration on the other, as in a printed book. The poems carry vowel marks, so a child and an adult can read together, page by page.

From the book to the app

The last spread has a QR code that invites children to carry on in Mr. Cucumber's garden, another part of the app.

The closing spread of the book: the story continues, with a QR code inviting children to Mr. Cucumber's garden in the app

What was built

Story Time is built as a progressive web app (what a PWA is, on web.dev): it opens in any browser, and you can install it to a phone's home screen. It has a library page with the book's cover, and from there you open the book.

A library, a catalogue or content you want people to keep on their phone is built as a web app; a simpler content site is built as a business website. What I build.

Questions

Who wrote the books?

I did. I wrote them from the childhood stories my father told me.

Do I need to download an app?

No. Story Time opens in the browser, and if you like, you can install it to your home screen without an app store.

What do I need to read it?

A phone, tablet or computer with a browser. Open the address and start reading.

Can you build a library like this for my content?

Yes. Books, guides or a catalogue you want people to have on their phone are built as a web app. The price depends on how much content there is and what the app needs to do, and you'll get an exact quote after a conversation.

Need something similar?

Have content you want to bring to the screen in a way people come back to? Tell me about it.
